Her style is distinctive, evocative, and powerful. Andrea trains her camera on the lives and minds of overlooked subjects - women, young people, the poor - and paints of them the complex portrait they deserve. Her work is a constant contradiction: messy but elegant, instinctual but deliberate, expansive but intimate. And in those contradictions lies the truth of real life. Casting non-actors, improving dialogue, shooing in scene order, using only real locations. Making an Andrea Arnold film requires immense dedication and trust from everyone involved but it's worth it. Working with Andrea was an absolute dream and I’m anxiously awaiting her next project xx. So thrilled with the results from this past weekend - my wolfhounds did brilliantly! Thanks to Glenys Gwilliam, Laura Barclay, Charlotte Bright and all the team who support Dukesarum Wolfhounds. So proud of the gang – Giacomo, Chiara, Joji, Lillibet, Scout who was a star, winning 1st in the Open Bitch class and Overall Reserve Best Bitch – and Meg who won 1st Puppy Bitch and Overall Best Puppy in Breed and was sired from the frozen seed of my beautiful long-lived Gideon, who died nearly 25 years ago now. It's everyone's favourite day of the week. And favourite day of the year.! This week, I want to highlight. She's the real deal ? Not only is she a fantastic filmmaker, but she is equally dedicated to supporting other women in film. Was lucky enough to work with her on her directorial debut, Novitiate, staring. The film went on to win her a very deserved Directing Prize at. Novitiate had an almost entirely female crew and female cast. Maggie designed it this way, choosing talented and deserving women to take on roles that tend to go to men, including one of my favorite DPs (deserving of her own ), Kat Westergaard. It was a privilege to be one of the many women bringing Novitiate into this world. We have so many exciting projects with Maggie coming up that I can't wait to share with you. And when I say many I really mean it - her mind never stops working, and she is always coming up with a new script, a new point of inspiration, a new world to build. She sees everything with a creative eye, finding a movie in the books she picks up on a whim at the airport, or the in latest headline. Her dedication to telling stories honestly starts on the page and follows through to her thoughtful and detailed work with actors. Maggie is now going on to direct the Shirley Chisholm biopic for, a project perfectly suited to her talent with nuanced and powerful female stories. I've been around the world with Maggie, and from New York to LA to Moscow.I'll follow her anywhere.
